Tent Fumigation for Termites
Tent fumigation (tenting) is the most effective whole-house treatment for drywood termites. Vikane gas penetrates every piece of wood in the structure, eliminating all termite life stages. Ultimate Termite provides professional tent fumigation across Southern California.

How Tent Fumigation Works
Preparation
Bag food and medications in Nylofume bags, remove all plants and pets, arrange 3 nights of lodging. Unlock all interior doors.
Tent Placement
The structure is sealed with a fumigation tent. Vikane gas (sulfuryl fluoride) is introduced into the enclosed space.
Gas Circulates
Gas circulates for 24–48 hours, penetrating all wood throughout the structure and eliminating all termite life stages.
Aeration & Clearance
Tent removed, structure aerated, certified technicians test air quality. Once cleared, re-entry is authorized.
When to Choose Tent Fumigation
When Fumigation Is the Right Choice
- Whole-house or multi-area drywood termite infestation
- Multiple termite species identified
- Pre-sale treatment — escrow requires clearance
- Infestation in inaccessible areas (wall voids, sub-roof framing)
- Previous spot or orange oil treatments have not resolved the problem
When NOT to Choose Fumigation
- Subterranean termites — fumigation does not affect underground colonies
- Truly localized single-room infestation (orange oil or heat may suffice)
- Cannot arrange 3 nights of alternative lodging

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does tent fumigation take?
2–3 days total. You will be out of the home for 3 nights. The tent goes up on Day 1, gas circulates for 24–48 hours, and the tent comes down on Day 3 after a clearance test.
Is Vikane gas safe?
Yes when properly administered and cleared by certified technicians. Vikane (sulfuryl fluoride) dissipates completely — technicians test air quality before re-entry is authorized.
Will fumigation damage my belongings?
No — Vikane leaves no residue on surfaces, fabrics, or materials. It penetrates and then dissipates completely.
How often do I need fumigation?
Once treated, termites won't return to treated wood. However, new infestations can occur over years as new colonies establish. Annual inspections are recommended.
Does fumigation work on subterranean termites?
No — fumigation only treats insects inside the structure. Subterranean termites live in underground soil colonies and require a soil-applied liquid barrier treatment such as Termidor.
